Sony HDCAM is the high definition version of Digital Betacam, and sets a new standard in high-density recording for ultra-crisp HD images - it's ultra-fine magnetic particles are 50% smaller than those used in DigiBeta. HDCAM features frame rate switchability and the High Definition Common Image format to provide a single product line and a cost-effective solution for all HDTV and SDTV requirements.

Developed for multi-generation operations, Sony HDCAM captures images at full 1080 line resolution and is ideally matched to the vast majority of worldwide high definition transmission standards. This means that high definition images can be viewed on the growing choice of HD-compatible television receivers and displays, readily down converted for Standard Definition (SD) transmission or re-purposed to suit virtually any global distribution requirement... from DVD to e-cinema. Ideal for a wide range of high performance HDTV "CineAlta" applications from transmission to ENG/EFP, motion pictures, commercials, and high-end television production as a master recording media.
